R.E.M. – Accelerate (Deluxe Version)Redhead Walking
R.E.M. - Accelerate (Deluxe Version) - Redhead Walking (Non-Album Track)

Out there are silver dressed darlings
And ramen mein delights
When ginger hair gets all fired up
She beats them in the night
That redhead walking, uh

Don’t get close
She’ll warn you with her growl
She’s a bud cuttin’, star studded, leather chested girl
Out there a redhead walkin’
Redhead walkin’
The redhead walkin’
Better listen keep your distance from the crimson crime warpath

O kiss that girl
Kiss that girl
Kiss that girt

Yeah, she’ll cut your heart like diamonds
End of story
You bet you’re gonna lose it to that hellbound crimson glory

There — a redhead walkin’
A redhead walkin’
A redhead walkin’
Heed what this wise man says
Keep away from redheads…

Freckles are beautiful

I used to care so much about what
about what others think about
Almost didn’t have a thought of my own
The slightest remark would make me embark
On the journey of self doubt
But that was a while ago
This girl has got stronger
If I knew then what I know now
I would have told myself don’t worry any longer it’s OK

[Chorus:]
’cause a face without freckles is like a sky without stars
Why waste a second not loving who you are
Those little imperfections make you beautiful, lovable, valuable,
They show your personality inside your heart
Reflecting who you are

Who you are
Who you are
Who you are

I wondered if I could trade my body with somebody else in magazines
Would the whole world fall at my feet?
I felt unworthy and would blame my failures on the ugliness I could see
When the mirror looked at me
Sometimes I feel like the little girl who doesn’t belong in her own world
But I’m getting better
And I’m reminding myself

[Chorus]

Reflecting who you are
Reflecting who you are
Hmmm
Whoooooo whoa hmmmm oooooo

[Chorus]

Are redheads unlucky?

Lovely Laughter

We crimson-topped folk have suffered over 800 years of discrimination all because of our golden locks. For hundreds of years literary references warn against the unlucky and/or evil nature of people with red hair. The Proverbs of Alfred warned as early as the 1200’s that ‘the red man is a wicked man, for he will give thee evil counsel’. Throughout the decades red-haired men and women were thought to be poisonous, treacherous, bad luck, unhappy, unlucky to meet in the morning, before a journey on foot or upon a ship, and even for the fishermen. It was even thought that if a redheaded child or person visited on New Year’s Day that someone would die within that house by year’s end.

Tsk. So much fear of the unknown.

The way I see it redheads are indeed very lucky. We thrive despite the unlikely recessive genes needed to bring forth our fiery locks. We need less anesthesia during surgery and dental procedures. We are resilient evolutionarily, physically–despite our sensitivities, emotionally for most of us have endured some sort of taunting on account of hair color, alabaster skin or quirky freckles.

Seems to me despite what the masses once thought or may still believe–we are the lucky ones, fortunate to be of strong unique heritages and beautifully rare form. We are unique and ordinary, strong and sensitive all at the same time. We are the lucky ones born of parents of all hair colors, surviving despite the evolutionary unlikelihood, thriving despite the centuries of popular contempt against us.

Redhead

Originally uploaded by heartfirewolf

brilliant shafts of sunlight,
once shadowed by blackened thunderheads,
now burst through openings in emptied brokenness
streaking sky with gleaming, vertical hue

each beam,
each golden shard of flaming magnificence,
falls tenderly upon basking, fairest flesh below
with lingering blush,

and conjures flecks of melanin,
aroused,
like assemblies of browning worshipers,
enshrined in ivory temple

so that longing eyes,
nearly blinded
by the strength of sun’s glorious brilliance,
can reverence heated memory
at each reflection
upon soft, speckled skin
and can remember. . .

having known passion

That Red-Haired Girl

Just now I saw her tripping by!
What makes me start and tremble so?
‘Tis not that red-’haired girl, I know!
And yet, somehow, I heave a sigh.

For she is fair and tall, while I,
Alas, am dark, and thin, and dry;
What stuff is this I’ve writ! but oh,
That red-haired girl!

What odds to me, you say? Oh, my,
How hard it is to tell a lie
When one beholds that throat of snow___
And eyes grow dim, and pulses go!
God bless my soul’s delight! Who? Why,
That red-haired girl.

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The gray smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!

The Greatest Gift…

Light up the Fire

I gaze into the heart, lowly it may be,
Thought the words be higher still.
For the heart is all the substance,
The speech an accident.
How many phrases will you speak,
Too many for me.
How much burning, burning will you feel,
Be friendly with the fire, enough for me.
Light up the fire of love inside,
And blaze the thoughts away.
